Choosing a Wedding Gown

By: Guy Starbuck

Right from the time they’re in pigtails, nearly all women fantasize about their wedding gown. Even before they’ve reached the dating age or met the Perfect Guy, most women have already conjured up the ultimate wedding gown they will step out in on the Big Day. However, when one actually gets down to choosing one, it may not turn out to be such an enchanting experience! The following are a few tips for getting hold of just the perfect wedding gown.

Firstly, every woman is not the same in size and shape. No two women in fact are similar. Hence, it is essential that you recognize the kind of dress that best compliments your size and shape. Note: Everything doesn’t revolve around the dress; in fact, it also is about the way you appear in the dress. Putting on a slim-fitting strapless dress when you’re obese will do nothing for your figure. And neither will donning a big voluminous gown if you are short in height. There are a myriad variety of dress styles out there in stores. An excellent way of finding out which dress style suits you best is to check out an assortment of styles. Once you have assiduously determined the kind of dress that best highlights your features and hides your imperfections, you’ll have better insight about what style to pick.

When choosing a wedding gown, another factor you need to bear in mind is dress color. While this may appear as absurd to think about – as the majority of brides dress in white – this in fact is something, which needs to be wisely evaluated. Remember that even white comes in several shades and tones. Some women will appear stunning wearing sheer white. However, where other women are concerned, a champagne, ivory, or cream color may appear much more becoming. It all is based on the tone of the skin and your hair color, together with the dress style you are selecting. At times, dark haired, olive skinned women will look gorgeous in a champagne or ivory colored dress – particularly if it has elaborate beadwork on it. On the other hand, if the outfit is plain, simple and chic, the same person may appear lovely in sheer white. Bear in mind that beauty lies in the beholder’s eye. What may appear fabulous to you may appear less than ordinary to someone else. Therefore, it is generally best to have another person accompanying you so that you can select the dress together.

And this takes us to the third point: having someone go with you to select the dress. In case your mom (or someone who is like a mom) is around and you two share a wonderful rapport, it is normal that you would have her to accompany you to select a dress. And in case you are of the traditional sort, you also may ask your would-be mom-in-law to join you as well. Any best friends, bridesmaids, or trusted buddies are also generally asked to go along. Still, some women choose to go by themselves – it is the bride’s call and it normally depends on the kind of wedding that is to be held. Regardless of what you decide to do, only remember that the ultimate decision regarding the kind of dress to pick depends on you. It’s your Big Day, and you are free to select the wedding gown that will make you appear like a vision of beauty!
