The Marriage Rehearsal Dinner
By: Guy Starbuck
In case you are organizing a wedding, but have little knowledge regarding the rehearsal dinner, then we need to carefully scrutinize the things you have to be aware of.
Normally, the rehearsal dinner takes place immediately following the wedding rehearsal, where the bride, the groom, plus all attendants take part. The dinner generally takes place at a location where all the guests can easily reach it, once the wedding rehearsal is over. For instance, you certainly wouldn’t want to put your rehearsal dinner invitees through the trouble of traveling over an hour or so to attend the dinner the night prior to the wedding.
It’s routine for the bride, the groom, and their attendants and families to be called to attend the rehearsal dinner. Besides, all guests residing outside the town should also be called. If you don’t intend to call guests living in a distant place, you should furnish them with a neat list of places where they could go to have dinner – particularly if they are new to the locality. The number of guests you wish to invite is determined by your budget. Usually, the rehearsal dinner takes place the night ahead of the wedding, but quite a few people in fact hold it 2-3 nights prior to the wedding. Everything banks on what the bride and the groom desire.
According to custom, the groom’s family is the host at the rehearsal dinner. But, these days, it’s open to anybody to act as hosts at the rehearsal dinner ahead of the wedding –the groom’s family, the bride’s family, and even the bride and the groom themselves. The person who gets to host the traditional rehearsal dinner is an issue that has to be decided upon by the concerned people. Eventually, it’s the host who meets the dinner expenses of all of the invited guests. If on account of any reason the groom’s family is unable to pay for the rehearsal dinner, then it normally is the bride and the groom’s duty to host it. All couples do not hold a rehearsal dinner; moreover it’s not obligatory. But, it’s simply a custom that most choose to adhere to – particularly if they are having a very orthodox kind of wedding.
However, one thing’s for sure, regardless of who is hosting the rehearsal dinner: - it’s essential that the dinner itself must mirror the bride and the groom’s personality and interests. The rehearsal dinner need not be a ceremonial event, but nevertheless, that hinges on what the bride and the groom want. The rehearsal dinner’s objective is to give the bride and the groom some quality time to spend with their wedding party and also with their families ahead of their big day. At the rehearsal dinner, usually the bride and the groom hands out presents to their attendants as a mark of appreciation for coming to the wedding.
A few examples of good rehearsal dinner spots are chic restaurants, homes, church lobby dining rooms, and backyard barbecues. As far as the rehearsal dinner’s concerned, nobody is really bothered with the choice of venue! It should essentially be a pleasurable time for everybody to unwind, eat, and have a round of drinks ahead of the special day. However, brides and grooms need to be cautious about overindulging and should have an early night. They surely don’t wish to feel under the weather or exhausted on their marriage day!
